The Eyes of Your Heart
Dear Friends,
In a world filled with confusion, chaos, division and strife, the Gospel must be preached with great love, compassion, courage and conviction. The world must see Jesus revealed in His church.
Romans 10:14-15
How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of
whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can
they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good
news!"
The Apostle Paul set an example for us as he always remembered the believers in his prayers.
Ephesians 1:15-20 (emphasis added)
…ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, I have not stopped
giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus
Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him
better.
I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, in order that you may know the hope to
which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great
power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength, which he exerted in
Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms…
Though we are blessed with the gift of physical sight, the Lord also bestows spiritual sight – that is, “enlightening the eyes of our hearts” – which is far greater. God also blesses His servants with divine discernment, insight, understanding and wisdom as He guides them in His paths.
The word “enlighten” in the Greek (photizo), means to bring to light, reveal, illuminate, to make known, or to instruct or teach. Interestingly, in view of our culture which consistently deceives and obfuscates, photizo can refer to the revealing or public disclosure of what has been kept secret!
Jesus said His Holy Spirit would lead and guide us into all truth and tell us what is yet to come. This means that if we continue to walk closely and faithfully with Him, we will be fully equipped for every good work – no matter what challenges we may face in the world.
We cannot trust our media, government or educational system to furnish us with the truth! Like the sons of Issachar, we must understand the times and know what we should do for our families, our churches and our nation. The news we must hear at this hour is the “Good News” of the Gospel – the Lord’s will shall be done on earth as it is in heaven!
Paul prays that the eyes of their hearts would be enlightened. Many do not see how powerful this scripture is for the believer. Having the eyes of our hearts enlightened will enable us to know the hope to which the Lord has called us! God has not called us to hopelessness or despair! If this truth is enlightened to us, then we should not to live in continual discouragement, negativism or defeat. Why? Because the Lord assures us that His “incomparably great power” is available for us who believe! It is likened to the very power that raised Jesus from the dead and seated Him at the right hand of the Father in Heaven! Many Christians pray as though they must overcome God’s reluctance to answer them! We are children of the Most High God – the Creator and Sustainer of the Universe! Is the Lord’s arm too short to reach us in our hour of need or breakthrough? Absolutely not!
Hebrews 4:16
Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace
to help us in our time of need.
Hebrews 13:5 AMP - God has said:
…I will not in any way fail you nor give you up nor leave you without support. [I will] not, [I will] not, [I will] not in any degree leave you helpless nor forsake nor let [you] down (relax My hold on you)! [Assuredly not!]
Let us inquire of the Lord, that we might see the world and others through the eyes of Jesus. May we fully possess His heart of love, mercy, forgiveness and faith.
Ephesians 1:3
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with
every spiritual blessing in Christ.
May the Lord continue to shower you and your family with His richest blessings and favor!
